Good Samaritan credited with rescuing family from fire - Fox 59 News

INDIANAPOLIS ? Firefighters from Indianapolis and Speedway extinguish a fire on the city?s west side.

According to fire officials, a passerby noticed smoke coming from a home near West 30th Street and Georgetown Road, near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, around 12:45 a.m. Friday.

That good Samaritan banged on the door, waking a mother from her sleep. She ran, grabbed her children from their beds, and exited the home.

The mother told fire officials the passerby asked if anyone else was in the home, and if everyone escaped okay. After the mother said all occupants were okay, the passerby quickly returned to his car and sped off into the night, leaving no information.

The mother and her two children, ages 5 and 10, escaped the home without injury.

The resident told firefighters the family had no working smoke detectors, and the man who alerted them to the fire likely saved their lives.

Firefighters rescued their six-month-old Doberman Pinscher, Diego, from the home. He was reported in good condition and was reunited with his family.

Firefighters said there were no working smoke detectors in the house.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. It?s estimated the fire did about $30,000 dollars in damage to the house.
