FACEBOOK GRAPH SEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT TO HELP LOCAL BUSINESSES?

(Newswire.net via Emailnewswire.com - January 15, 2013) -- Los Angeles, CA -- Facebook Graph Search was announced by Mark Zuckerberg at a news conference today at Facebook's headquarters. ?Many online marketing experts have long prognosticated that eventually Facebook would enter into the search game. ?With close to 1 billion users worldwide, the social network giant appears poised to keep potential search queries within Facebook.

In addition, Facebook has now officially aligned forces with Microsoft's Bing, so that if any search queries can't be answered by Facebook's Graph Search, then users can find more links via Bing search results.

With this coming on the heels of Facebook's newest local feature, called "Nearby" it appears that Facebook must now be considered a major player in local search. ?The question then becomes, "How will this help or hinder local businesses?"

When asked this question, CEO and founder of Local Business Rockstar, E-Rock Christopher, said this, "This has been in the works for quite some time. ?I knew this was only a matter of time. ?Now more than ever, local business owners must really pay attention to Facebook as an additional tool in their marketing arsenal. ?That's exactly why we just launched a new Facebook app designed to help local business owners get more Facebook check-ins and reviews."

The application is designed to give local business owners to ability to generate their own special offers and deals to drive more customers to their location. ?In return, the customer will "Like" the business's fanpage and check-in at the store upon purchase. ?To see an example, you can visit this flower shop's fanpage.

Some people are concerned about the history of privacy issues that Facebook has exhibited in the past. ?But Mark Zuckerberg and his "Dream Team" of?Lars Rasmussen?and?Tom Stocky, both former Google employees, assure this won't be an issue due to "filters" and that your information can't be exposed outside of your network.

Futhermore, Zuckerberg states this won't be the same as traditional web searches:

"What?s more interesting than any of these things (that Facebook currently does) is giving people power and tools to take any cut of the graph that they want."

The big differentiator from the web searches will be that all these Facebook Graph Searches will be personalized by your social network. ?Thus, no two Graph Searches will ever be the same, even if they use the same exact search query.

Facebook Graph Search is still currently in beta mode and will be rolled out slowly over time. ?However, you can request to be a part of the testing process here.
