Jeetan Patel to rejoin Warwickshire for 2013 ? Cricket News Updates
Warwickshire County Cricket Club has re-signed prolific New Zealand off-spinner Jeetan Patel as their overseas player for the 2013 season.
Patel, 32, was the key to Warwickshire?s LV = County Championship title win last season, picking up 51 wickets in 13 games at an impressive average of 22.76. The impressive show also helped him earn a recall from the New Zealand selectors.
In the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition, the off-spinner took 11 wickets in 10 matches to help the Bears finish runners-up. However, Patel had a modest run in the shortest format of the game, where he could pick up just five wickets, as Warwickshire finished the Friends Life T20 tournament at the bottom of the Midlands/Wales/West Group.
After signing the deal to remain their overseas player next summer, the New Zealander is scheduled for a fourth season at the Edgbaston, having first joined the Bears in 2009. The last three county seasons saw the Kiwi off-spinner picking up 74 first-class wickets at an average of 25.72.
Patel said that winning the County Championship title with Warks was one of the highlights of his cricketing career, and hoped to play a major part in more success for the club.
"Winning the County Championship with Warwickshire is one of the highlights of my career and with such a strong squad available, I see no reason why we can't push harder for success in all formats next season," said Patel after signing the deal at Edgbaston.
"The new facilities at Edgbaston have made it one of the best grounds in the world and Birmingham has certainly become my adopted home. I'm looking forward to returning in 2013 and hopefully playing a major part in more success for Warwickshire," the 32-year-old added further.
The Bears will start their title defence against Division Two champs Derbyshire on April 10, with the New Zealander available for the start of the season.
The Black Caps are scheduled to play two Tests in England in May next year, but veteran all-rounder Daniel Vettori?s expected return to fitness may mean the Wellington offie is not required for the national duty.
