Playing more Test cricket would have been great, says Shahriar Nafees ? Cricket News Update

Former Bangladesh vice-captain Shahriar Nafees on Sunday said that it would have been great had they played more five-day cricket over the last 12 months. However, he assured that his side would not use it as excuse come the first Test of the two-match series against West Indies, on Tuesday.

The Bengali Tigers have not played a five-dayer for over a year. Their last Test appearance came against Pakistan, at home, in December last year (December 17-21). Since then, they have played a lot of one-day and T20 cricket, but there was no Test match for the Tigers on ICC?s Future Tour Programme (FTP).

Nafees, who himself has not played an international match since that Test match against Pakistan, said that they cannot control the FTP, and would not use it as an excuse in the forthcoming Test series against West Indies. However, he said that t would have been great had they played some cricket as well over the last 12 months.

"We played well against West Indies last year and did well individually against Pakistan. So if a player can continue playing cricket that would only be a good thing. The players don't have control over the FTP, so we have to make the best use of opportunities," said the left-handed top-order batsman, who had played a composed 97-run knock in Bangladesh?s last Test appearance against Pakistan.

To do well, the Bangladesh batsmen will have to outclass a strong West Indies bowling attack, featuring the likes of mystery spinner Sunil Narine, and pacers Ravi Rampaul, Fidel Edwards and Tino Best. Narine is the most talked-about bowler, but Nafees said that there was no scope for targeting ?any one bowler?.

"They are in good form. Ravi Rampaul, Fidel Edwards and Tino Best are their strike bowlers and they also have some good spinners. We can't just work on one bowler because they are on a high note. We have to take everyone seriously," insisted the Dhaka batsman.

This will be the third Test series between the two outfits, on Bangladesh soil. The previous two Test bouts, in 2002 and 2011, were won by the Windies.
